Teamforce Labour are looking for an experienced Works Manager with a background in civil engineering, particularly within large infrastructure projects on behalf of our client.

Role Overview:

As a Works Manager, you will be responsible for managing and leading a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring the smooth execution of site works. This includes overseeing both subcontractors and direct workforce, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. You will also play a key role in resource management, site logistics, and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team & Resource Management: Lead the site team, including Foremen, General Foremen, and Labour, ensuring they are appropriately resourced and managed to meet project requirements.

  • Safety & Compliance: Oversee safety on site, ensuring all work is performed in line with H&S legislation, client procedures, and approved RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements). Promote a Zero Harm culture and be proactive in stopping work if safety procedures are not being followed.

  • Plant & Equipment Management: Oversee plant hiring and maintenance, ensuring the plant register is accurately maintained and plant is used efficiently according to project needs.

  • Quality & Environmental Controls: Ensure quality control procedures are adhered to and materials are managed to minimize wastage. Be mindful of environmental impacts and ensure project-specific environmental controls are in place.

  • Site Logistics & Coordination: Input into site logistics planning, manage the mobilisation process, and ensure materials and resources are properly ordered and allocated.

  • Reporting & Documentation: Ensure daily records are completed and reports are submitted accurately and promptly. Maintain detailed site diaries and monitor the progress of site activities.

  • Supervision & Development: Oversee supervisors and engineers, ensuring they are briefed on company policies, safety standards, and project requirements. Conduct assessments and provide mentorship to develop their skills.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and other key personnel, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project.


Skills & Experience:

  • Civil Engineering Expertise: Solid experience in civil engineering, particularly in Earthworks, Drainage, Groundworks, and Pavements, with a focus on the highways sector.

  • Leadership & Management: Proven ability to manage both direct and subcontract teams, with strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach to managing site operations.

  • Safety Focused: Excellent understanding of Health & Safety practices, with a strong record of maintaining high safety standards on site.

  • Communication & Problem Solving: Strong communication skills with the ability to think and act decisively, building relationships with clients, stakeholders, and suppliers.

  • Experience in Regulated Environments: Experience working in regulated sectors, such as rail, highways, or water, with a focus on compliance and quality control.


Qualifications:

  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)

  • CSCS Card

  • Full UK Driving Licence
